COVID-19

On March 16, 2020 the Supreme Court of Virginia declared a judicial emergency in response to COVID-19.

Further orders have extended the emergency throughout the summer. Appellate and local court changes are found here.

VALegalAid's website hosts a page on housing rights amid COVID-19.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has signed an extension to the eviction moratorium further preventing the eviction of tenants who are unable to make rental payments. The moratorium that was scheduled to expire on March 31, 2021 is now extended through June 30, 2021. The order can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-eviction-declaration.html

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (VDHCD) created a webpage on areas affected by COVID-19, such as:

housing crisis, business recovery and broadband.

 

VDHCD provides information about the Va. Rent and Mortgage Relief Program and offers an eligibility questionnaire:

The Virginia Department of Social Services also has a website for resources available to Virginians in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
